I love food for as long as I can remember!
Growing up in Hong Kong, I was lucky to be exposed to many different foods and cuisines since I was very young.
Went on to study Food Science and Nutritional Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
While missing out on all the parties at the No. 1 party school in the US, I joined the Dairy Judging Team to compete regionally and nationally. Subsequently, I was placed in butter, milk and ice cream judging.
It was during this time that I realized I utterly enjoyed tasting and analyzing food.
Continued my further study at the University of California, Davis in Food Science, specializing in Sensory Science, a degree that allowed me to keep tasting, quantifying attributes of food and analyzing their flavors and textures with human subjects objectively.
After graduation, I worked at the coffee giant and continued to taste; teaching others to taste and quantify food and beverage properties.
At home, I cook as organically and healthily as possible, and am an avid supporter of local community supported agriculture, composting and recycling.
However, I do surrender all my control when I eat out.
I love to eat too much to be a complete vegan or vegetarian.
As a result, I subscribe to eating in moderation, both in quantity and my food choices.
Eating at home healthily with less grease and vegetarian/vegan preparation gives me the much needed quota to eat the likely not-so-good-for-me but exceptionally delicious food outside of the house.
Being green also makes me aware of what I am putting on myself, hence I devote a significant amount of time on researching products when I have to make skin care product purchase.
After all, skin is the largest organ of a human body.
I believe it is equally important to pay attention to foods we put in our mouths and products we put on ourselves.
It has been 8 years since I quit my job at the coffee giant; and it dawned on me that I had not done anything with this big passion of mine.
That is how Doofniks (backward spelling of Skin Food) came to live.
Doofniks is a 99% Food blog and 1% Skin care blog.
I thoroughly have fun writing this blog, and share just about everything I come across concerning food.
Hopefully something for everyone.
Enjoy!
