Omega Ouzeri

“Ouzeri” is a type of Greek tavern that serves small plates, mezedes, and ouzo, an anise-flavored Greek liquor.

Omega Ouzeri on Capitol Hill, is for sure, providing both.

The decor was a subtle Greek pride with white walls and plenty blue accents.

Pellegrini Italian Market

We don’t go to West Seattle often, and every time we went there, we were awed by the amount of on-going constructions: the addition of new big Trader Joe’s, and more mix-use buildings.

On-going development is truly happening everywhere in Greater Seattle.

On the main street of California Ave., one will find this relatively new establishment Pellegrini Italian Market, opened by the family who owns La Rustica in West Seattle.

Casual-dining, order at the counter, with small grocery area and part bakery, Pellegrini Italian Market has a nice and open airy feeling.

They serve a full sandwich menu, consists of paninis, subs and pizza sandwiches, plus pizzas by the inch, salads and other appetizers.

The day we were there, they also offered breakfast sandwiches.

Luc

Rover’s, now closed for many years, used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle; its intricate food and well-designed tasting menu was one of the best in town.

Since its closure, Rover’s owner, Thierry Rautureau has opened Luc, in Madison Valley near the old Rover’s, and Loulay in downtown Seattle.

Truthfully, the low rating Luc received has deterred me from trying them out.

But the back of head always wonder, can it really be that bad if I really enjoyed Rovers?

Off we went to brunch, and it was delightful.

Their onion soup was one of the best I had around town.

Volterra

WP_20150824_19_05_00_Pro What a good deal!

Volterra in Kirkland offers a four-course dinner for $45.

They were generous for us to share the four-course dinner if the second person ordered an entrée (inclusive of pasta).

It was very quiet when we first arrived on a Monday night, diners did show up later and the place was nearly full.

With many of us in the party, it was a perfect opportunity to sample many dishes.

My favorite was the special sausage, pork jowl and bacon risotto.

I was intrigued by the dish, but at the same time skeptical about it because it had the potential to be completely heavy and greasy.

Fish and Chips Versus

With Seattle being a seafood town, one would think that we must have many fish and chips specialty joints; yet I can only think of Spud, Pike Street Fish Fry, Nosh and Chippy’s, the new addition by Ethan Howell.

Yelp confirmed my suspicion, with search returned about 9 fish and chips (grills and pubs not counting) specialty shops.

I went to Pike Street Fish Fry long time ago and remembered not liking it, and never went back.

Nosh has been on my to-try list for a very long time, and I was very happy to find out that they are in downtown Bellevue food truck pod every Monday.

Nosh the truck with their raspberry and mint Arnold Palmer

While looking up where to eat on Mercer Island, I found that there is a highly rated fish and chips place called Freshy’s.

So, the most important question: between Nosh the truck and Freshy’s, whose fish and chips reign supreme (tipping my hat to Iron Chef)?

Hands down Nosh.
